The Street Fighter V version of Chun Li pummels Ryu with special moves that appear to have been adapted from her Third Strike move set. The version of Chun Li shown in the trailer harkens back to her Street Fighter III: Third Strike iteration, her only appearance in that particular sequel. He finishes out the trailer by charging a beefed up version of his signature fireball attack and shouting “Denjin hadouken!” That would indicate Street Fighter V is at the very least set around the time of Street Fighter III, and it's notable that this will be only the second Street Fighter game in which he's been able to pull the move off. Ryu lands a lightning infused fireball that knocks Chun Li backwards. In one of the more impressive features shown in the trailer, both Chun Li and Ryu can power-up, enhancing their attacks with water and lightning elements, respectively. Ryu supposedly wouldn’t have mastered this move by Street Fighter IV, since it takes place before Street Fighter III. In Street Fighter III, it was one of Ryu’s Super Arts. If you never played Third Strike, your introduction to the lightning-enhanced Denjin Hadouken was through Street Fighter IV’s Gouken, Ken and Ryu’s martial arts master. So why is this timeline important? Read on.
